indigo crush

hello,

Did you know that the plant responsible for creating the beautifully rich colour, Indigo (Indigofera tinctoria), has been around since 5000BC? Primarily grown in India, natural Indigo dyes have been found in Africa, China, Indonesia, the Middle East, as well as Central and Southern America.

The extract from the Indigofera tinctoria plant is not only responsible for creating one of the most coveted plant dyes available, it has been said to help with medical maladies such as Alzheimer's, epilepsy, lung cancer, liver disease, diabetes, and even arthritis. Wow! It is a super plant!

Now, while I cannot attest to any of the above holistic treatments, I can attest to the fact that, as a colour, Indigo is rich, organic, and calming. It is a colour that evokes feelings of peace and tranquility. It is also said to increase one's levels of intuition and perceptiveness.

Ever since I was a little girl who went bird watching with her Grandfather (this mostly consisted of reading bird books together, while dreaming of the birds we esteemed to see on our short trips to the local playground). One day, he showed me a picture of an Indigo Bunting. I was incredulous! This bird was so vibrant, it thought it must have been make-believe! From that day forward, every time we went bird watching, I was on a search and find mission for an Indigo Bunting. Alas, I think the most exotic birds we ever saw IRL were a Baltimore Oriole and a Scarlet Tanager, but all of these years, I have kept my eyes open for a sighting of this elusive four-winged friend.

In recent years, as my tastes have evolved from bird watching to "design" watching, I continue to find myself drawn to this vibrant hue. Whether it is found on a gorgeous Kyoto pillow available through Serena & Lily

Or on some stunning fabric in either a contemporary Ikat , or even in a more traditional large-scale floral , this colour packs a brilliantly contrary combination of drama and serenity.

So, if you are looking for accent pieces to add a "pop" of colour and some "wow" factor, how about incorporating this fabulous Indigo table lamp  into your family room?

Or, how about a dedicated "Indigo" space in your home office?

And, apparently, blue walls (or, in this case, blue accents) in a bedroom create an atmosphere conducive to peaceful, tranquil slumbers:

I don't know about you, but count me in! I have an indigo crush and I think I shall do something about it. hmmm....new pillows???
